i genuinely can’t explain how i feel about this book lol…
the writing was like really boring for me, especially at the end of chapters. all the chapters ended in the most boring ways ever. i feel like this book could have been 200 pages shorter lol. and it sucks cause the plot itself was so interesting! i just wish it wasn’t so drawn out cause it really didn’t feel like a mystery at some points.
there were times i’d forget this was supposed to be a mystery and then they’d just throw in stuff like buddy actually being a killer or robinette having an affair or whatever. i will give it props tho because as much as i didn’t enjoy it, it did get me through my reading slump lol.
i also just didn’t like conley. like at all. the way she prioritized this story almost ruined a bunch of her relationships. especially with skelly. she was so rude when questioning people and i could never feel bad for her except for when she almost got kidnapped and killed.
lastly skelly was SO basic and boring. he always took whatever conley did. and i get it cause he loves her or whatever but like when she was questioning his mom?? and she was getting very visibly upset but conley wouldn’t stop?? he just kinda said “hey don’t do that” and didn’t really hold her accountable. idk, i kinda liked him and he deserved someone much better than conley.
