Overall, the book is okay. It’s not BAD, but I had a hard time reading it. I didn’t vibe with the writing style, the dialogue didn’t feel genuine, almost like a bad high school play. The way Belle’s character ended up being overall I wasn’t a fan of, same with the Beast. I was disappointed with how Gaston turned out to be. He didn’t have a lot of depth, and again it felt very “bad high school play”. Not a bad story, just kinda meh to me I suppose. I’d recommend it still for those who like spin offs and retellings. It’s an interesting story and concept, it’s just how some characters turned out and the dialogue didn’t do it for me.

This contains spoilers without going into detail. It talks a little bit about how I feel about the climax but no particular events or characters are named.

I loved the story, the events, the character and relationship developments between everyone. Post climax I was crying off and on. But the climax itself is what I had an issue with.

This is where the “spoiler” begins.

The climax, I and the characters basically got what we wanted. There’s 2 parts, where it started and where it ended.

Where it started, I was hoping for something grand, and I got it in a way I didn’t expect and it leads to the second part. It mad me so angry in the best way possible.

However, the way the second part of the climax ended, while I found it funny and full of karma, I wanted more. I wanted something grand, I wanted that “big battle to the death” moment, and what I got was “the big battle to the death is going to happen and…..just kidding but you still get the outcome you wanted”. It felt a little too much like a “hand of god” moment where that HAD to have happened that perfectly to happen.

If I had gotten what I wanted out of the climax, 5 stars easy, but because the climax didn’t have that EPIC moment, I was left wanting a little bit. So again, 4.5 stars, if you haven’t read the first book, do it and then read this one.

This is my first introduction to adult fantasy/romantacy. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. The characters have so much depth, background, emotions. The dragons are characters themselves, and are such an important part of the story. This book is worth and needs 2 reads. The second read will allow you to see everything you missed by not having all the information, and the information you learn as you read the book, and the ending changes the meaning of everything from the start of the book. There is so much to this world, characters, politics, everything. This is one of, if not THE, best book I have ever read.
