The most Charlie Kaufman thing to ever exist, which I’ll leave to you to decide if that’s good or not. There’s no point in trying to summarize or explain the plot as it would inevitably fail. The one point I’ll call out is that of all the inexplicable things that happen in this book, the one I would have least expected was a subplot involving the religious proto-anarchist group the Diggers (or a group inspired by them at least.) Good luck trying to figure out the plot from that.

Both frighteningly current in these pandemic times and soothing in its surprisingly wide variety of character histories both before and after the pandemic. I wouldn’t have expected to enjoy hearing about the personal life of the artist that wrote a comic book that would be given to the heroine of the novel as a child that remains her treasured possession as an adult for example, but was delighted all the same.
