This book, although fiction, has educated me significantly. I have found myself often in a deep thought about how hoarding becomes such a serious issue to many people. The story is mysterious, dark in places and it’s as if you are in the middle of the Birds Family. The characters you grow to love, at times you want to reach into the book and cause a scene at shouting at them. The way this has been written is marvellous, I found it an easy read, educational but at times a very slow read. However I feel the more people read this book the less stigma towards hoarders. There is always a reason behind things and sometimes there isn’t but it’s about looking beneath the surface and working through the whole process that’s important. Greater understanding is key.
Lisa Jewell has done amazing with this book, I will recommend this to many people throughout my future as I think The House We Grew Up In will stick in my mind for the rest of my life.
I listened to the audiobook, got 39% in…WASTE OF TIME.
I got to the point about weight loss, tried to continue but just couldn’t! This book is awful. I was struggling with it anyway but the minute weight loss came into it with the fact you just have to attract yourself to it..NAH IM DONE!
I get how this can be helpful to some, I get some of the thoughts behind it but how the author has gone on to make as much money as she has by this book is just something doesn’t make sense. I guess the time the book was released if would be a massive thing but honestly it’s just garbage.
The way the audiobook is fine I just couldn’t handle that either. I have DNF’d it after debating continuing but there are more books out there I could enjoy and 2025 is the year I won’t be scared to DNF
I won’t lie, I nearly gave up on this book. I’m not usually one to read long books (over 400 pages). However I persevered with this one. Boy I am so glad I did!
I have NEVER read a book like this in my life. I laughed and I cried and I felt the raw pain in this book. This book may have triggered me in ways that I was not expecting in the slightest but once I worked through it, I have an understanding as to why I reacted the way I did on a deeper personal level.
I will say to please check for trigger warnings for this book as it is dark but almighty powerful, however, YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING IS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY!!🫂💓
I have only just come across this author but I definitely will be reading more as they get released!
I was very late reading this book due to personal circumstances and seeing as Threes A Crowd is available on Kindle Unlimited at the time of this review I chose to not read the advanced reader copy provided by the author and NetGalley in return for an honest review but instead read the available kindle unlimited edition in order to support the author. ✍🏻 Note: This review is still 100% my honest opinion.
