It was OK. The characters were somewhat charming and interesting. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the different characters it felt like a lot of them had very clear behavioural characteristics. However, the plot has since turned into a bit of a cliché resulting in an unsatisfying ending.

Listened to an audiobook version read by Pheobe Judge on the podcast "Pheobe reads a mystery".

Great premise, The first act blew my mind but lead into a rather dull second act and a bland finale. I wish the author would have focused more on Melanie and her dealings with the reality and the surrounding people rather than on the apocalypse cliché. Throughout the second act of the book the characters got blander and a lot of their interaction, especially with each other, felt forced.
Honestly I can recommend the book for the opening chapters but wouldn't say it's worth reading much further than that.

I listened to the audio book version read by Phoebe Judge on the podcast Phoebe Reads a Mystery.

I belive I first hear about this store from a mystery writer who described it as the best mystery ever written. Can't say that I agree with their enthusiastic statements, however I did really enjoy the story most of the time.

I have a general issue with the "mystic indian gem" that is in the center of the story. I find it leaning too much old stereotypes, making it hard to grasp as a modern reader.
