I’m not usually into true crime, but I thought I’d fulfill my duties as a real Kansas Boy and read this. Also the Orville Peck song got me curious about it. I actually listened to the audiobook (read by Scott Brick) and I think that really helped me immerse myself in the time of the tragedy. Though no body is asking me, I think that Perry Smith definitely needed some kind of psychiatric treatment. You can tell by how he thought through things that something was not right about him, so much so where I don’t believe he had the clarity to understand what exactly he was doing.

Anyway, an incredibly well written book that I definitely won’t forget, especially anytime I’m in western Kansas.

3.5 stars. Iconic, happy to read a good mystery after I just watched the new Benoit Blanc movie. Listened to an audiobook and I’m very lucky I speak french, it would probably be hard for others who don’t.
