A meandering Greek mythology themed adventure, this book never really picked up the pace until near the end, and when it was finally running at a reasonable clip, it ended suddenly with several quick, predictable, and poorly explained twists. The narration is in first person from the perspective of a woman who complains an awful lot and flies on the whims of Fate instead of showing much initiative of her own, until the last moment when she's suddenly a defiant hero. The writing was mostly excellent with a strong voice and vivid descriptions but at times it was difficult to continue reading as the story plodded along. And in the end, the signaled potential for an interesting romantic side plot was thrown to the wayside. It's possible this is explored further and resolved in a future entry to the series, but it left me feeling let down in the end by all the foreshadowing.
