I did not like this book much. The protagonist was a loser just failing out of school, and the book basically just mapped out a couple days in his life. He has very low aspirations and little happens that is compelling. Then it kind of just ends with his saying he wishes he could be someone who catches people before they fall off a cliff in a field of rye (hence the name). This is based on a song sung by a child in the story.
I found this book boring, although others will no doubt have a different perspective. The only reason I finished reading it is that it is supposed to be a classic.
