absolutely delightful!!!!!! a near-perfect rom com. loved the concept and the execution was fun, funny, romantic and HOT. loved the ensemble of two huge italian families and the wedding setting was SUPERB. flipping the page to see seb's name and realize it was dual pov had me cheering - it was so fun to get both of their narrations throughout the journey. there wasn't a ton of character development perse and the whole nebraska thing didn't get resolved super clearly for me, but otherwise i had a great time.

this did not go well for me. i tried the audio and the narration was so annoying and felt very immature, so i switched to the digital and things did not improve from there. i love rom coms and was excited to read a book that was centered around them, so i enjoyed the parts of this that felt very much like a love letter to love stories and romantic comedies. however. the actual love story of this book and the love interest were not at all romantic to me. charlie is an isolated asshole who thinks he is and knows better than pretty much anyone. i disliked him after the first meeting, which i know i was supposed to, but he never did enough to fully endear himself to me, and then he started rejecting emma and it got worse. to have him point blank reject her TWICE because of some misguided hero complex was deeply annoying and i didn't really want them to get together! i didn't even like emma that much either! she was also kind of an asshole (the stuff with her sister especially) and the amount of times i had to put down this book because she was insulting her own hair or literally asking charlie if he didn't want to be with her because of her hair was so frustrating. if you told me they broke up i would believe you. i think i'm done with KC after hello stranger and then this? her characters and writing are just not for me.

not really sure about a star rating right now, but this was ... fine? i liked the characters alright, but the book honestly didn't do much for me. nothing was godawful, but nothing really stood out or blew me away. and i can't even BELIEVE i'm saying this ... the pregnancy wasn't a big enough part of the plot for me.

for the most part, i enjoyed this. the writing is engaging, if sometimes a bit repetitive or clunky (i will give grace since this is a debut) and i liked the premise. grant and helen are interesting characters and the narration switching back and forth was done well. but i just didn't feel like i understood why they couldn't be together. helen was so adamant that they couldn't be anything and that she didn't even care about him, but there wasn't a lot in the story to help me understand why she felt so strongly. the barriers to their relationship just felt very forced. i think grant's side of the romance was more interesting. but when they get back together, it doesn't feel like anything's really changed in how they communicate. and then they get engaged and he meets her parents and they get married all within a year? i just wanted more from the last 20% of this. also why the fuck was he calling her cracker jack?
