This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Díaz

Very engrossing. Harsh, moving, coming of age stories. Otravida Otravez was my favorite. Second-person POV memoirs always get me (Miss Lora).

The forest scenes were so repulsive, I would have died for sure. I could see myself getting into the animal dances.
The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore
Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.

I really disliked this book. The platitudes, the cliches, the blandest main character with the lowest stakes plot ever. Not even like boring, but actively annoying.
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

I was into the whole story up to 80 percent through. Fun characters, interesting world and setting, intriguing story/mystery that I was kinda following along with in hope of a grand explanation. But the end part with Ianthe and the fake Septimus was confusing, and I feel unsatisfied. Gideon was a great character; I'd be sad if she was actually dead, but not sure if I'll pick up the 500+ page sequel to find out.

I read this a lot as a child. Pretty funny.
Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally by Emily Ladau
3.5
Informative, esp about intersectionality. I don't think I'll be on the cutting edge of disability allyship, but I'll be better now. Key takeaway: be thoughtful and kind. Golden rule, etc.

You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place by Janelle Shane

I wish there was an appendix to contextualize the recent AI boom. Overall, pretty informative. I got sick of the robot voice reading recipes pretty quickly.
Genesis by H. Beam Piper

Read this as a child and some of the weird details stuck with me, like the robotic way someone who has never used a grenade describes how to activate it. And the scene where he regrets not teaching his kids the alphabet or how to farm.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

So heartwarming. Loved the friendships: knitting group, Camel-tron and Lizard-breath, Tova and Marcellus.
