I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Son of a Sailor. It is a cozy pirate novel complete with a mermaid. Captain Redbeard aka Quentin Thatch is sailing home upon the death of his father. The book is about grief, secrets, and returning to your childhood home. There is a second chance romance subplot, but it is not the focus of the novel. I loved all the characters, and I hope this is the first in a series.

They had me at vigilante magical librarians, but it is a proposed 5 part series with book 3 not coming out until 2024 and nothing is really resolved at the end. I like at least a few things tied up at the end of a book.
