“I just a mother very calmly admit to murdering her twelve year old daughter”

A Mothers Betrayal
The Murder of Karissa Boudreau and the RCMP Investigation That Uncovered The Truth
By John Elliott

I can still vividly remember when this happened, I was in grade 12 when this young girl was believed to have run away, only the truth was so much worse. This book talks about the case and the undercover operation to bring the truth to light and get justice for twelve year old Karissa Boudreau.

We’re living in what they call the “Information Age,” but life only seems to be making less sense.

This book was fun for what it was, but is definitely my least fave of the three Amanda has out now. I found myself drifting a lot because the chapters seemed to sometimes be more ranty than anything else. I did learn some from the book, but it the end I was happy to be finished.

“There was no force on earth so determined and patient as water.”

I don’t even know why I picked up this book, but I was not disappointed I did. The slow burn was just what I look for. I did find it a slow read even though I was really enjoying the story. But this was definitely a KU win.

“The house was absolutely essential, a vital part of herself which she recognized immediately.”

Burnt Offerings by Robert Marasco

I immediately book this book on hold at the library after listening to a podcast where someone said they loved this as much as Haunting of Hill House.

Sadly for me, this book was too slow burn with everything happening at the end where I was left sitting asking, now I want more. Don’t get me wrong, I love my a good slow burn, but I need something throughout the book.

“It's like roses and thorns, justice and grace. You can recognize the beauty and happy parts of your story while also recognizing the more difficult parts. The two can coexist. The highs aren't automatically erased or invalidated by the lows.”

Ooof. I grew up seeing this show on TLC and you watched the older kids grow up on television. Who didn’t know the Duggars?

This memoir was heartbreaking to listen to. I think people expected more from her but personally I can see the healing journey she is on with the words she’s written. It was interesting to hear her side of growing up and then becoming an adult and finding her freedom. #ipreview via @preview.app
