It's a meh SciFi adventure. I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't recommend it, hence two stars.

The main character's perspective is very predictable and the writing around his experience is also very predictible, which makes for a little bit of an annoying read. This made it so that I'd often ended up trying to read faster to get to the point of the scene or section.

The idea behind the plot - or behind it's conclusion at least - is interesting enough, but there's not much about the way it pans out that feels real. The writing lacks details of experience, or at least details of technical objects/surroundings. Instead there's lots of belabored drama from the main character's perspective which comes across as repetitive sentences or paragraphs I could have just skipped.

Did not finish book.
Stopped 1/3 the way through. Can't take any more of this book. Old sci-fi... Sometimes it's just too unrelatable for me to enjoy, despite being an obsessive sci-fi reader.

UPDATED: Okay, I gave this book another try. Liked it much more, revisiting it in a different mood. But still not a favorite book. I feel like there was huge potential for exploring the impact of this new Sci-fi future in people (longevity), but it ended up really just being a very abstract fiction about someone choosing suicide.

ORIGINAL 2019-11-16 (2 stars):
Couldn't get further than 38% through this book. The main two characters' relationship problem is kind of interesting, but then the main plot line (the science/research they're up to) is just not compelling enough. I just wasn't hooked enough to know what would happen next.

Fun read! Listened to the audiobook, and it was fast paced, action packed, and the universe was really interesting.
