While I do like the theme of starting anew no matter the age or circumstance, I do think it needed to explore more on communication. I understand the "show don't tell" aspect and the vehement refusal of Josy's family however it felt  a bit off. I enjoyed it, but wish the emotional aspect hit harder.

Starts off slow and fuzzy and steeply picks up halfway through. Great prose, reflective even. Despite being a novella it felt longer in the beginning and too short in the end. A lot of the set up in the first half felt like fluff lang which made the end scene not hit the emotional mark as much. Definitely a bit of a pacing problem but was overall enjoyable. Would recommend finishing this in one sitting.

slow iyang build up pero the last 25% grabe ka intense and engrossing. beautiful prose, and there is so much care sa pagdeal with each individual character. cliche kaayo to use the talking piint na there is more to a character than their labels but that is not an issue for this book kay wala siya naga tickbox — you come to learn of the characters at their own time. the agency that the author made for the characters really set them apart. after this i need to research more ky octavia butler kay na intriga jd ko.

Even when I think I have grown enough from my grief, I come across art like this book and need to face it again.
