Aphoristic and sparse, but deeply moving reflections on Char's time as part of the French Resistance. Char asserts the importance of action and defiance. Yet, he still seems to consider himself a poet and appears immersed in an aesthetic tradition that would be harder to reconcil with the pursuit of radical social change today. Might be interesting to consider the shifting relationship between poetry and politics. I'd also like to dwell more on the gendered aspects of this text, as Char occasionally writes from the feminine position (would have to research more to decide whether this reads as a reflection of feeling passive and disempowered in war, or if perhaps women aided the resistance efforts).
