I loved this. Such a thoughtful reflection on power and where real empowerment lies. As much as beauty is valued in society, it is often its own prison. She continually works through her conflicting thoughts on whether it’s better to take ownership of the game or remove yourself from the game entirely.

I can’t believe I waited 5 years after this book came out to read it. As I read it, I realized I had put it in a category in my mind as something I should read, but that would ultimately feel preachy and whiny. Unconsciously I had heard the internet’s cry of Lindy being a humorless feminazi and believed it! That’s how bad internet misogyny is! As it turned out, I loved her writing on weight, I loved her writing on feminism, and I especially loved her writing about comedy and crusading for comedians to hold themselves accountable for who they’re helping and who they’re hurting. Loved it through and through.
