- I found the beginning a bit slow but I’m so glad that I stuck with it because I started to really get into the mystery of it all
- I found the reveals to be enjoyable and they kept me hooked.
- I kept thinking I knew what was happening and then I didn’t (in a good way)

- Dark academia about Black vampires… love
- Really great world building
- Morally grey and complex/layered main characters kept me on my toes but the side characters needed to be fleshed out more
- The info dumping at times made me feel like I was being taken away from the story
- Overall great. Reading this I was like wow I finally got a real enemies to lovers

Exactly what I needed once I finished the regular stand alone books. I missed these characters.

This was a 10/10 no notes book for me. The author put his soul into this. It’s more than just a retelling of Huckleberry Finn. The fact that he showed that the slave owning white people and the white people who were supposed to be against slavery were just two sides of the same coin is really indicative of people like that today.

Really disappointed in this one. It might be my least favorite fo hers. Maybe my hopes were too high but I thought the quality of her writing was getting better because she was taking feedback lately but this one was almost… boring? It started off pretty good but the middle part after the actual crash seemed to drag on. Maybe if around 50 pages were cut it would have been better. This just wasn’t the typical popcorn thriller I have grown to love from her. There was less shock and mystery. I liked the first and last 50-75 pages.

- Good world building and character development
- Sort of reminded me of 1984 in a way.
- I wished the DNA character was a bit more fleshed out and that the technology system was explained more.

- This was a truly wild ride I started to feel like I was a suspect
- The writing and pace really kept me hooked and engaged in the story
- When… that… is revealed I was like I KNEW IT
- I do feel some characters felt a bit one dimensional and I wished I was really rooting for something/someone
- Otherwise this was really good and I’d recommend it to folks!

- this book had me ugly crying at least 3 times. The story was very immersive and powerful.
- an important story of how women were very valuable in WWII but so often overlooked in history
- The ending times things together very nicely and in a heartwarming way.
- I noticed some issues with the writing in terms of inconsistencies that left me confused and questioning timelines. I’m not sure how these were not caught in editing
- I was upset that we were supposed to feel like there was “one good Nazi”… while I also would feel horrible for killing someone I don’t know if I’d say he was a “good man”

Liked: the full cast, how silly it was at times

Related to: chuck’s deep seated issues with perfectionism.

Didn’t like: Sofia’s entire child like personality at the big age of 32. I found her… unbecoming… if you will.
