Jujutsu Kaisen - Band 23 by Gege Akutami

I am up-to-date with the Manga since I follow it on Manga Plus so this is a re-read in German. But reading it as a complete volume makes some of Gege Akutami's writing flaws soo apparent. The fight was cool and all but it showed me that the problem that I thought would arrive later in future chapters has already been obvious in this volume.

I didn't like it at first, the writing style and pace at the beginning wasn't working for me. But part two and three were very impactful in my opinion.

Won this in a StoryGraph Giveaway. Thanks to both StoryGraph and Querencia Press!
I did enjoy the poems for the most part and some more than others. I do think that readers need a bit of background knowledge about the fairy tales to fully enjoy it though, because I noticed that I enjoyed certain ones more when I had some background knowledge on what the tale was about.
I also liked the overarching themes of the poems!

Read for a Manga Book Club.
The artwork, especially the intricate details on the clothes, ornaments and wood designs is amazing.
The age gap, as they always do, bothers me a bit, but I have to say I was kinda already prepared that there would be a big age gap when seeing the title of the Manga. Tho, I have to admit, I first thought it would go the route of young bride x old husband, like other stories do. However, I also think it is dealt with in a better way compared to some other media I have seen.
There seem to be cultural/historical reasons, and whilst I am not a fan when this is used as an excuse, it is portrayed better in this Manga. It doesn't just go the route of "Oh that's because it was normal back then so it is ok!" but gives more insight. Albeit more info is needed and I hope it will come up in later volumes.
The age gap seems to be implied as something sort of problematic in the story as well, but not due to his young age but rather her as a woman "not being able to give him more children, and that's why young brides are better" kinda mentality. Not to mention the way her clan/brothers talk about her.
And it is also implied, in my opinion, that Amir does not really see Karluk as her husband as of now but more of as a child and thus also takes care of him.
It is also funny to sometimes see the western-looking guy(on the wiki page they do say he is English, kinda figured but I don't think it came up in the 1st Vol.) lurking in the background of panels, asking questions, being interested but also being a bother lol.
I'll keep this Manga in mind and maybe continue it at some point.

It moved quite fast at the beginning but the last chapter helped with the pace. (might also be due to me reading it on the official Manga Up App tho, where all chapters are split into even more parts... but still).
The romance tropeswith Jinshi (crossing boundaries, being very touchy even though he seems to know she doesn't like it, etc) feel super icky to read. It reminds me of some older Mangas which used such tropes a lot and I do not like these tropes, especially right from the get go.
I do like the general premise of the Manga tho, so I might continue reading it at some point.

I've seen people recommend it due to the Anime and so took the opportunity of a reading challenge here on StoryGraph to read the first Vol. and I have to say, while it starts rather boring and a bit confusing as soon as the food becomes more of a focus it is really enjoyable.
One thing that stayed in my mind from the last chapter specifically is:
"I used to be afraid of living armours.
I can't believe they were that weak...
...and tasty"
and I think it really captures the humour of the Manga.
