The overwhelming edginess of the first third or so, particularly prevalent in Gladstone's chapters, did not appeal to me, but I was absolutely won over by the later half. El-Mohtar's style is beautiful throughout, and Gladstone's later letters had me weeping. While the sci-fi time travel elements did not work for me, I found the love story and the letters incredibly compelling.

Also, this novella pairs quite well with Adrianne Lenker's songs album, which I listened to a lot while reading.
