Started really slow and not quite the book I was expecting but I was happily surprised. This book wasn't a true plot driven heist novel as I expected. Instead it was more of a character study and exploration of asian-american identities with fun heist moments on the side. You have to suspend disbelief a few times to get into the story because it's can be ridiculous at times. Still a fun and enjoyable read, but give it about 120 pages to get going and have better expectations going in

This book was a lot of fun but it had me confused in the middle and wondering if I would like where the plot was going. The plot kind of went off the deep end at the witch house scene and I wasnt sure about the whole book for a moment, but it ended up working for me! Super weird and I get why people might not like this book but I just love Hendrix's over the top horror style. I also really appreciated the multimedia aspects of the writing and the music motifs/ references

THIS WAS SO GOOD. The kind of book that's easy to read in a couple sittings because of how fast paced and enthralling it is. It definitely has horror and some gore but it was so fun. And the vivid descriptions really sent this book to the next level for me.

I really enjoyed this book! It was well paced, had unexpected twists and turns, exciting plot. I also really loved the epistolary style of writing, it made the novel feel more unique and also added the element of unreliable narrator which worked well for me. The ending wasn't *quite* as satisfying and wrapped up as I would have liked. I also had this sense that we were leaving a trail of breadcrumbs to the reveal but then left some of the breadcrumbs unconnected at the end. Overall great thriller/mystery novel.

I really enjoyed the twists and drama in the last 80 pages, but the rest of the book was kind of slow and way too convenient in its plot for me. I liked the different perspectives and trying to decipher who was reliable and not as a narrator. Not the biggest fan of the writing style (bit too much telling rather than showing) but the plot was fun and satisfying

Listened on audiobook and it was easily the best use of the audio performance I've ever heard. I loved the story and characters but damn Julia Whelan is a vocal treasure.

Not bad by any means just not what I was hoping for. I enjoyed the parallel plots in different times and i really liked the idea of a shop that sells poison for women to kill the men that wronged them. I also liked the arc of Caroline and finding her passion, it always is a trope I like to read. I also enjoyed the historical/archeological aspects of the plot.
I wanted more description of scenes and characters it felt hard to picture what was happening and who the characters were. I also found the overall message of the book confusing, like it didnt know what it was trying to say so it just said everything. Or nothing?
Overall fun plot but I think it missed the mark for me. Still an enjoyable read

It took a while to figure out if this was a 4 or 5 for me. I loved the suspense, horror, vivid description, witty lyricism of Paul's inner monologue. It was such a speed read for me I couldn't wait to see how it all went down. I think the only reason it wasn't an immediate five star was due to the book within the book. I know what King was trying to do with it but I just wanted to get back to Paul and Annie the whole time I was reading the Misery's Return excerpts. Overall so glad I finally read it
