this series went out with a bang with this final book, and i absolutely adored bowie and javi with every fiber of my being.
bowie had me hooked on him from the very first page of the prologue. my heart just ached for him and everything he was going through. and the entire book just implanted him further and further into my soul. he’s a top onleyverse character for sure. and i love the way javi was immediately taken to him and spent the entire book keeping him safe and trying to fix all of his problems for him. i also loved that while he was constantly respectful of bowie’s struggles after the assault, he never treated him like he was a victim that needed to be coddled and pitied. he trusted bowie’s judgments 100%.
the side characters were a fundamental part of this book, and i loved the way odette and lawson fit into the story and were great friends to our mmc’s. we also got to see some of out elite protection friends which is always a fun time.
i will say the story did kind of stall out towards the end, and then the third act conflict seemed a little ott and was resolved a bit too easily, which took me out of the story a bit. that’s the only reason i couldn’t give this 5 stars. but the chemistry between the characters was there from the beginning, the spice stayed consistently hot, and the sweet moments came in spades.
this series was so fun and i wish i’d gotten to it sooner. can’t wait to tackle wages of sin and the watch next.

memphis and preacher completely stole my heart and this book was such a fun ride, with a really thought-out and engaging plot, amazing chemistry, magma-level spice and rounded out nicely with the found family we have from both this series and elite protection.
preacher was one of my favorite side characters from book one, so i just knew i’d love him here, but i didn’t realize the depth in which i would fall for him and his sweet spot for broken boys who need care and love. the way he took to knox with no questions asked, and then fell head over heels for memphis the second he laid his eyes on him. i was here. for it.
i really did enjoy the plot of this book. it was well executed and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time anxious for what was going to happen next.
the sweet moments between preacher and memphis, paired with the dirty and depraved things they did to each other behind closed doors just absolutely did it for me and i just adored them as a couple.
i’m writing this review after finishing the whole series, and while i thought going into this that book 3 would be my favorite, i actually loved this one the most. not to say that cy and nicky, and javi and bowie weren’t wonderful couples with great books, but something about the mmc’s here just checked every imaginary box i could ever want. this is up there with my mulvaney boys for sure.
cannot wait to finish up all of onley’s books. they truly never miss for me.
