There was nothing wrong with it—it was very cozy and low-stakes. It just wasn't memorable, and I forgot I was reading it until I saw a Booktuber include it in their wrap-up.  I was at 90% and completely forgot I was reading it... whoops.

Another good one.  I appreciate how a good amount of time passes between the books.  It gives the impression of these characters having real lives outside of the books, and you don't need to suspend (as much) disbelief that this "small town" has a bajillion murders back to back.

I found this one a bit convoluted and I kept getting confused who all the characters were.  It is closer to home, so maybe I should have already had a good handle on all the side characters already.  So this might be a me-issue.

Fellow romantic suspense series, take note. Have a middle book focus on the overarching mystery plot to keep the reader hooked. Don't dangle the carrot and pull it away the whole series. Gimme a big ole bite.

And the slow burn payoff.... Let's just say I really wish it wasn't closed door. I wanted the HEAT.

Have I read a "not like other girls" on this FMCs level before? No. This is a new record.

The Buffy one-liner humor was cranked up to 100.

Sex, all the time, for no reason.

Still a guilty pleasure read. Audio was well done and I finished it all on one road trip.

Sweet I started off loving it and then as the book went on the  holes started to emerge. Motivations didn't make sense, especially from the Big Bad.

For bullying that cruel, it needed more grovel than a couple of expensive dresses.  And the reason for the bullying in the first place was flimsy and did not justify that level from literally day one.

I just had trouble connecting with anyone because I didn't believe any of them.

I adored it.  It felt like coming back home.  The relationship progression made sense,  I didn't feel like they went from  "I can't stand to be around you" to "I can't stand to be away from you" too quickly.  That said, I missed a lot of the setting and environment descriptions from previous books - I wanted more ranch and mountains.  But there was enough there to bring me back to Rebel Blue.  And I wish that the big "this is why we don't get along" was a bit more substantial.  Or not there at all, it seemed so petty for years and years of avoidance and bickering.  The cliffhanger is a doozy and but the first chapter teaser of Wild and Wrangled eased the sting.  I can't wait for April!

Did not finish book. Stopped at 31%.
OK having poked around the reviews a bit, it seems I'm not the only one thinking this book essentially wrapped up around 30%. Seems that the remainder is ultra spicy and has a bit more romance development but not a whole bunch.  And I can't find anything (even spoilers) about the fae plot.  Not sure if it has much progression but I couldn't find anything about it.  If the romance is at 90% completion and there isn't much progression on the fae side, then I don't feel much need to go on.  I'd rather leave this book on a high note.  The writing is wonderful, I adored the open and transparent communication between the FMC and MMC.  While a few things were being held secret by the MMC, it wasn't enough that I felt all that mad about it.

Despite DNFing at 31% I will still continue with the series, I am impressed that this is a debut.

While this book is part of the Cold Justice series, it is a series of interconnected standalone that have an overarching plot but each book focuses on a new romance with their own focused plot.

That said, I wish this book was more than one book.  It moved SO FAST.  I was constantly getting confused with who was who because we didn't have any time to breathe and actually get to know the characters.  The romance went lightning speed.  If you are looking for a fast read (or audiobook listen) then certainly pick this up.  But if you want to settle into a romantic suspense series with a slow burn romance, this isn't it.

I will continue on with the series when I need a boost during a reading slump, but otherwise I will focus on the other romantic suspense series I have underway.

Fantastic ending to this series, I could not have asked for more.  High stakes mystery/suspense plot, but also a beautiful conclusion to the romance and all the relationships among the side characters.  Absolutely fantastic, will be diving right into more by Kendra Elliot.
