I was surprised at the amount of worldbuilding for such a short novella and I was really intrigued by the concept of the different world the cupids live in.
I definitely see myself rereading this already in the near future 😂 so I’ll make sure to update this review when I do!
I enjoyed this! I love the authors art style and loved the storyline. Aster doesn’t have it easy at all, but he still has friends and family who accept him <3. I think this could also be really cool as a novel adaption some day.
This was incredibly heavy but with a great message behind it.
I don’t think I would ever want a kid to read it without reading along with an adult tho.
It tackles homophobia, abuse from a parent (physical and emotional), outing, death and grief, so it’s definitely something that needs to be followed with more discussion if read by the Middle Grade age group (and even Young Adult too).
I didn’t really love this :( I was super excited to pick this up.
I think this book just spent so long on the worldbuilding that it absolutely draggeddddd, while still not explaining the world well enough. Like sure the characters might have a bigger part in book two, but book one didn’t really make me want to pick it up.
I guess I’m kinda surprised that this was traditionally published. It felt like it really would’ve been helped by harsher editors, or if a few of the things happening or characters were taken out, because there was just too much. I also kept forgetting that humans exist in this world because they are so highly ignored.
This was really enjoyable, but it’s definitely for readers that enjoy a slower, character based story. The synopsis is pretty spot on with describing this one. A story about a sudden change in life and figuring out who you are as an adult away from family.
I really enjoyed the friendships that Zahra finds, and how everything isn’t perfect in the end, but it’s still a happy ending.
I wouldn’t say that it follows the normal story arc found in stories, and because of that, the pacing in the last quarter was a bit odd, but I still enjoyed it.
I got this as an arc from my local bookstore! This was my first book by this author and I’ll definitely be picking up more.
I’m a huge foodie but know absolutely nothing about wine. I get that the wine test was a major thing for one of the characters, but it was a bit boring at times.
There is a little miscommunication at the beginning (it’s not how you’re thinking I promise) that was absolutely HILARIOUS. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for one of the characters to react badly but all went well. (Oh wait I just saw this mix up is literally written in the synopsis which I think is dumb cuz it was really funny reading now knowing it was gonna happen).
I did feel the chemistry from these characters, and I also really enjoyed the writing style. There just overall wasn’t a lot in the plot that stood out to me. I might reread in the future but I’ll definitely pick up more by the author.
I didn’t really know what to expect going into this but it was a funny cozy book that felt like it was the perfect length!
I look forward to reading the sequel but I’ll also probably take my time so I’m in the mood for it. (I was actually surprised to see there was a sequel)
