3.75 enjoyed the relationship between the artist, apprentice and conversations around artistic license, the effects of art on culture, etc. JP, French linguist, was introduced late and felt like an afterthought so while his backstory was interesting I had a hard time investing in him as a character. It’s a quiet, somber book good for a dreary day.

Found the conservatorship pieces most interesting. I guess everyone already knew about all that with the #FreeBritney movement but I didn’t understand just how twisted it was. Surprised more people seem to be talking about Justin Timberlake than how absolutely immoral her family was. I can’t imagine doing those things to my own family member. Tragic.

Too many names for me to follow clearly but I learned quite a bit about Nazis in America.

Haven’t read much about out the dust bowl and really enjoyed this. Very steady pace and well developed characters. The ending had me in tears. Enjoyed the authors interview at the end and hearing how the main character Elsa didn’t really take the lead until she was well into writing the book.

Really enjoyed the interview format of the book, the audio production and voice acting were fantastic. This book really hooked me and I listened to the whole thing in 24 hours but I was hoping for a bit more Sci-Fi.
Spoiler! It ends up being a big walking alien weapon but they don’t get any further with discovering who left it or the science behind it. Perhaps this all comes in book #2 as the cliff hanger ending suggests.
