I won this book in a giveaway and appreciated the opportunity to read it.

That said, I really wanted to like this book, but just couldn’t. The plot was all over the place and I felt like I was dropped into season 3 of a 10 series show without any context. Why are the kitsune shifters forbidden? What happened to the parents? Do the humans know about shifters? Are there other kinds of shifters? Why is the city being run by a gang instead of the alpha? Honestly I had no idea what was happening for most of it. Plus by the end of it there was absolutely no resolution. I get that it’s the first in a series, but I would have hoped to have at least some answers.

I wanted to love this book, but struggled. The story at its core was a strong fairy tale re-telling, but the pace rushed through some major plot points while dramatically slowing down needlessly in other areas. I had a hard time feeling much of a connection with the characters until half way through the book.

Honestly the most frustrating part for me was the lack of editing. After seeing the word “vile” used instead of “vial” three times in two pages, I had to put the book down and walk away for a bit. i understand this might be nit picky on my part, but it completely pulled me from the story and into the real world. I am truly hoping the author grows in skill because the potential is there, they just need to focus more on the details.
