The narrator did not fit well with the gravity of the story. The voice sounded more jovial and playful than dark and tense when parts of the story called for it

The beginning is slow. The author was painting a picture of the family dynamic and the difficulties in the marriage but at a point it felt like beating a dead horse. I did not connect with the narrator
