i really do love virginia woolf, i do, but i found myself so bored with this read. there was just too much going on all at once, with all the other characters being described doing something else at the same time as a conversation. it was way too mind boggling. however, it is a classic, so the three stars remains.

How Ableism Fuels Racism: Dismantling the Hierarchy of Bodies in the Church by Lamar Hardwick

an excellent learning experience through how ableism has inspired racism and other forms of discrimination throughout history and in the modern day. furthermore, the author’s personal experience as a black disabled priest connects the history to his personal life. however, when talking about the current covid-19 pandemic, there were many uses of “post-covid” language, which pushed forward that the church is still inaccessible to immunocompromised people who cannot risk infection in this day and age. another thing i couldn’t get behind in this book is the priest’s support of the state of israel, never referring to it as palestine once throughout the book, even in historical context.

regardless of my personal qualms with the book, i truly do believe everyone should read this book, especially with the rise in religious hate and rhetoric which continues to affect disabled people every day.

while not initially keeping me in the story in its first few chapters, godkiller really surprised me with how in-depth its worldbuilding and characters are. each person is very well-rounded and flawed characters that have made me want to root for them very much. furthermore, i loved the queer and disabled representation we received in this novel. i loved how the author utilized italics to portray characters speaking in middren sign. it was so well done.
