While the synopsis made the book interesting, there wasn't much that happened within it. Some reviews said that this was an incredibly emotional read for them, and I just didn't get that. A lot of potentially emotional points were skipped over or made into footnotes. While gay people of color are rarely written about, neither Mike or Benson really talked about their circumstances, upbringings or struggles. Honestly, with some changes to the book, they could've been any race. So many conversations between characters were bland and repetitive. No one really had a personality (except Mike's mom, she's a gem). There were a few moments where I could relate to either of the main characters, but they were only moments. An okay read for the most part, but just meh overall.

Started fairly strong but I wish all the characters got a little more equal time to develop instead of just Kaz if we’re gonna get 5 other people’s POV. Has the blatant “wait for the next book” cliffhanger and nothing gets resolved.
The Gift of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois

An insightful and well written documentation explaining the impact of Africans being forced into America and shaping the country in so many aspects during the 1800s and onward during WEB Du Bois’ lifetime. A must read for those wanting to get an honest look into the macro level of life in early America and the impact of black folk in it.

An emotional and poetic novel about a boy and their complicated relationships - especially with his mother. So many gorgeous metaphors and introspective quotes. A gorgeous and heartbreaking read that looks into a Vietnamese boy, his family, and his coping with the beauty and madness in his world.

An emotional ride about to kids that could’ve been together but honestly shouldn’t. This book had me tearing up midway and their relationship feels incredibly real. I only wish the best character didn’t get plotted for the main characters’ development.
