I agree with most of the message (journey before destination, mindfulness, acceptance of death) but have seen it executed much better. I def understand the love if this is your first encounter with any of those themes, but, if it’s not, it’s not anything life changing

I liked this WAY more than I thought I would ! There was still way too much info dumping and sjm still sucks at writing plot, but that said it was so easy to get sucked into.
Honestly even if this book was worse it'd get 3 stars just for how much I loved the Throne Room scene (iykyk)
I actually liked Feyre in this (which surprised me, as I have so far gotten pissed at every MC SJM has written. I think a lot of her ptsd from under the mountain was well written, and I definitely empathized with her. I loved Rhysand & liked his court a lot too, and 90% of their interactions with Feyre. My only issue with Rhys, actually, is the drastic switch in him becoming the romantic lead.
Let me preface this by saying I did not like ACOTAR in the slightest, and was never drawn to Tamlin, but it felt like this entire book was just character assassination for him, which kind of lessened Rhysand's appeal? I really like Rhys don't get me wrong, but he had this morally grey thing going for him that I thought was gonna get built upon and fleshed out and it wasn't at all. He was turned into this saint who could do no wrong and not have a single character flaw, while Tamlin got the other end of the stick. I get that Tamlin got messed up under the mountain and am fine with him becoming an antagonist, but not without any build up? I would've much preferred if both characters weren't just all good and all bad, but had their respective strengths and flaws- you know, like any well written character.
My other qualm is that the battles were soooo underwhelming, and

Feyre having every court's power was just a bit too unbalanced for me.

I love when I go into something knowing the ending & still get hit when it comes to fruition
super super great premise, but I feel the execution could’ve been a bit better
