The best word I can think of to describe this book is exhausting. Reading through the play by play of this trial, I can only imagine how it must have felt to live through it and witness someone so blatantly and repeatedly deny and downplay one of the most horrific, atrocious, and disgusting crimes in history. Reading this in today's world added a sadly ironic filter for me, with the Israeli government's repeated denials of their war crimes in Gaza and against the Palestinian people. I also personally found a lot of similar rhetoric between Irving and the current American president (as well as beliefs, though with regards to different communities), which honestly only makes that whole situation even more terrifying as well. I really had to take my time to process the mixed emotions reading this. I can only applaud the author and her legal team for being so dedicated and thorough to ensure that this trial was done justice. My rating is less because I enjoyed the book (frankly the subject matter is difficult for me to say I enjoy) and more because it's well-written and covers such an important topic in a way I'd never seen before.

Poirot didn't truly show up until halfway through and I got a little bored without him
