This was in my TBR for such a long time and I regret not reading it sooner. It was a perfect YA romance.

Alina’s character development and her dealing with never dancing ballet again are written so well. I also love her complex relationship with her friends and sister.

I also love Alina and Jude together. I think when it comes to YA romance (or romance genre in general tbh), the author tends to write the male lead with no personality. Sometimes I also don’t understand why they fell for each other. But with Jude and Alina, you can understand it. I love all their moments of talking about their pains and understanding how similar they are.

Honestly I have a lot of praises for The Other Side of Perfect, but I just don’t have the English skill to explain it well. I’ll definitely be checking out Mariko Turk’s other works.

Keiko’s story is way better. Better plot, better conflict, better romance

I have a hard time liking Jenna or being interested in the plot. The romance is also boring.

Rin feels too vague, it just feels like he is there to exist as a love interest. The plot is my biggest problem, it’s too boring.

In general, it just feels like Keiko’s story is more interesting and more relatable. Keiko herself is a much better protagonist than Jenna

The younger sister pissed me off so much. The fact that she literally drugged the FL, yet has no regret or shame… Her action didn’t got a serious treatment from the narrative and instead treated as a light humor.

Anyway, this is really not good. The romance is mostly lust. I don’t get how they even fell for each other and I don’t care for it. This story will be easily forgotten in a day

Too much of annoying things in this romance for me to enjoy
- The FL and ML still calling each other brother-sister after kissing and more is crazy
- ML having bunch of sex with other womans during their separation, but the FL remains alone. This shitty double standard always annoyed me. ML can cheat easily because ‘you can’t expect him to celibate for years’ yet the FL can’t have sex with another men or else the ML will kill him
- The FL praising England for having no slavery and saying other countries should have followed what England is doing… she is actually delusional. Mind you, the story keeps mentioning India, West Indies and East Indies. What the hell did she think England was doing in India??? Obviously I know she was an England noble so this is proper mindset for her, but I’m side eying the author
- This story is highkey racist. The author keeps mentioning India, not in the good way. The hero returned with a tan skin and the author made the narrative and every characters described him looking like savages (most likely Indian people). There a lot more racist stuffs happening in the book. The author could have easily just… never mentioned any of this shit. Like, she could have just write romance… This just confirm that the author herself is a fucking racist
- FL also forgave the ML way waaaayyy too easily

The first and the middle dragged too much. Way to much talking

But by the end, it was good. I just wish it happened sooner

Very cliche romance. Sometimes full of cringe but I enjoyed it.
