A great spinoff to one of my all time favorite series. Although this one was a bit on the slow side compared to the house witch series, it's not painful. Actually I think it makes when you consider the way her condition makes her slow down more than she would want too. It also speeds a bit more as she learns to strengthen her self as well. I was really hoping she would end up with Kat and there are a few more decisions that the author made that felt a little questionable or different than where I would have taken the plot. However I am still kind of interested in finding out why it had to play out that way, with reading the new spin off series " The Burning Witch".  I also related to Kat way more than I should have!

Unfortunately I drank up this series like water on the equator. Hopefully, the next person to pick this up can pace themselves better. I honestly loved this series so much! It was a perfect mashup of childhood nostalgia fantasy, with an adult lense. There was no damsel in distress nonsense or annoying miscommunication tropes or overly graphic trauma. Yet i felt like this was a well thought out execution of characters that feel real in the way that i felt pain when they did and laughed along with their nonsense. There are quite a few heavy topics & tense realities discussed for them and somehow the world still felt like a safe space.

I'm already on the spinoffs & I hope the hold up to heart of the main series.

I knew i was going to read the entire series the second I heard cracken's POV. This book is hilariously well written & acted out. I strongly recommend the audio version which doesn't happen often. There are so many adorably lovable characters that I just want to put in my pocket and protect forever ugh! I'm already on the second one, happily. Depending on how the rest of the series goes, it might switch to a 5 star rating.

A very a funny & relatable read. I especially enjoyed that the killer wasn't obvious until close to the end, so much more fun that way. I would run to the next one but just like our MC, I also don't believe in running.

Overall this was amazing, the world building was enough to bring you in seamlessly without being overwhelming or confusing due to the time period and the advanced tech. The characters were all fully developed, lovable yet irritating in the ways that cousins raised like siblings are. The harsh realities of their society & community were woven in the most natural ways.

The only thing that irritated me personally was the main character's indecisiveness, which I now is the point but i think it's just the extent of it that I could not get past. I am also someone who prefers to have the full story & all the detailed information about something so i can properly examine every angle tediously before making a big decision. I can definitely understand her hesitation the first time she failed her test and I might have done the same. However if you beg for a second & third chance you should know why you're begging in the first place and use your redo as best as you can. It took her the full month to make a decision just for her to choose the more selfish and frankly dumb choice. There were so many more options and she just kept dragging her feet and making flimsy excuses. I can let some of it slide because she's young and naive but some of it was just common sense.

It's just interesting how she went from not trusting herself to overthinking herself into a poor impulse decision yet she expected her family to trust her?
I hope some of her choices in the end will make more sense in the sequel instead of being a "Reasons why you should have just killed him in the first place" I want the pieces to come together in a way that I'm not expecting.

I loved this! Although I wish there was more about their home life but I have a feeling I'll get more of that once i read Amal unbound. So honestly no notes, it was fun, light, funny & enraging all at once in a way that is more enjoyable than stressful. I also love that it's a standalone in its own right but has connections to the other book without actually giving away anything. I've been in a "tired of series" mood lately so this was the perfect antidote.

Predictable but after you get past the incredibly slow start, it's a fun listen. I can't wait to be proven wrong if i end up reading the rest of the series.
