A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins

Didn't see the many twists of this book and I wasn't even close in my guesses. Found the characters quite hard to place in age apart from Irene but I think I kept picturing everyone bar Laura and Daniel as old age pensioners even though I'm sure that's not the case. Not that it really changes the outcome of the book! Only thing I didn't understand was at the end
who was it that Irene (I think it was her) saw getting in a taxi that sent shivers down her? Was it meant to be the murderer? Felt like it was mentioned and abandoned

My knee jerk reaction was that I wasn't into this book but I've been thinking about it since I finished and I think I was just expecting a standard novel and this is a book that is actually trying to make a point than tell a story as such. The writing is amazing and some of the lines are so cutting and raw especially about unrequited feelings and the use of Instagram etc. Changing my initial review from 2 stars to 3.5, I think I'd appreciate it more on a re-read as I think I was to focused on the plot and not about the message. I just don't think I was smart enough to see that initially 😭😅 Also shout out to the chapter titles!

Needed to brush my modern studies higher off for this one 😅

I found it a slow burn but was hooked half way through I can just be funny with books that jump perspectives and timelines but I ended up finding it's rhythm and I can see why the author chose this style.

Love how you felt you knew Clio without ever having heard from her perspective. Favourite character was Sammi by far. What happened to her especially with
Mark made me feel ill for her and the fact it is based on real events is mad

Also heavily pictured the character Spider as Spider from Coronation street (IYKYK). If Natasha Lyonne could do a Scottish accent she would be my pick to play Clio when she's older.
