I found this so original even though it’s loosely based on a familiar tale. The romance felt so natural and compelling and the characters felt like real people as far as how they approached what they wanted and where they have come from.
Oh. I have feelings. I have read fanfiction written by minors with better pacing… The “foreshadowing” was more akin to force feeding unto the point of frustration. The mass of racial insensitivity in the first 53 pages is what finally made me put it down. Very careless references to First Nation peoples, general racism in cardboard characters that exist solely as stereotypes, and the moment that made me finally put it down, when the white Mc asks the only Asian woman in the club if “they have werewolves where she comes from” and the poor woman responds that “since she was born in town, yes. They have werewolves where she is from”
I rarely dnf books. It takes a lot. But the last thing I need in this current climate is more casual racism bouncing about.
