This series is really enjoyable so far. You definitely have to read them in order to understand some of the plot twists, and character struggles.

Book 2 has more suspense than Book 1, and at several points I thought I had things figured out only to be genuinely shocked because I was oh so wrong.

I can’t wait to see what happens in Book 3!

Audio: 3/5
Story: 4/5

It took way too long for me to start enjoying this book. About 1/2 way through I realized it wasn’t the storyline, but the narration. It felt very choppy, and completely robotic. A story like needs to be read with emotion and inflection or it just sounds awkward.

That being said, the story itself was good. In true Lauren fashion, another food item is ruined. Tread lightly if you’re a fan of produce. I knew the story had a HEA, but it was not the ending I expected.

If you’re looking for a quick and smutty read, this would be a good choice to enjoy on your e-reader or with the physical copy.

Overall I enjoyed this steamy mafia romance. Some parts were very good, but some parts were written in a way that just completely took me out of the story. This is an extra spicy open door dark romance. Some of the scenes between the FMC and the guys were so out of character, and had plot holes so it didn’t flow seamlessly. There was a lot of repetition with describing their oh so short but “mind-blowing” sex, which made it fall flat for me. Yet other scenes were so well done that I could picture what was happening clearly AND  feel the emotions of the characters. A little hit or miss on the consistency.

I enjoyed getting to know all of the main characters. Each of the brothers are so different from each other, and it was fun to watch their dynamics play out on the pages. Chelsey (FMC) has been through so much, and is clearly still struggling to find herself. One moment she’s a strong-willed brat. The next, she’s consumed by fear. The conflict of trusting the guys (or herself) one paragraph and not the next was dizzying.

That being said, HOLY CLIFFHANGER! When I got to the last page I was in disbelief. I kept clicking the screen to make sure there wasn’t more. I need to know what happens next!

This book may have been better if I read it in physical form. A lot of it was hard to keep up with due to the narration. Especially in the beginning with email and text conversations back and forth.

Additionally, the FMC is supposed to have an American accent. Her dialogue is spoken with an American accent, but her thoughts are narrated with British accent which made it really difficult to keep track of whose thoughts were whose.

It was a cute storyline, but it didn’t stand up to the first two books in the series.

I absolutely love Ms “That’s Your Business”! I fell in love with her personality on TikTok, and this book really captured it too. Her anecdotes, her mantras, her inspirational stories, and her delicious vegan recipes were sprinkled throughout. It’s the first non-fiction memoir I’ve read in a while that I truly couldn’t put down.

I listened through the audiobook, and I felt like she was sitting in my dining room, having a casual conversation with me while making the occasional snacks. She read this book exactly how she would normally speak with her accent, her inflections, and her interjections about Yours vs My business.

100% recommend reading this book AND trying the recipes included.

This story was really cute. I loved getting the long backstory for Mari (the FMC), but I wish we’d gotten more of Chev’s (the MMC) backstory.

Heart-Shaped Box began as an anthology short story, and was expanded upon as a Novella. I loved getting to see how Mari & Chev’s romance began. The tangled webs of young romance were such a blast of nostalgia! It truly brought me back to my college days, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I wish we had gotten to see more of Mari & Chev’s romance though. The epilogue tied things up nicely, but I wish there was more to read in that gap of time.

WOW!! I don’t know what I was expecting, but this far exceeded any possible expectations. Serial Killers go on a tropical retreat where they can act out their vigilante fantasies for sport. Sounds gruesome, right? So how does Lauren turn this into a romantic comedy????

It’s definitely dark, but not for Lauren’s writing style (IYKYK). So much witty banter, so much sexual tension, so much situational humor. I was laughing to the point of tears!! And the spice?? Chef’s kiss. Warning, I don’t think anyone that reads this will ever look at pineapple, piña coladas or mayonnaise the same way ever again.

I immersion read this with the paperback copy while listening to the audiobook. 1,000% recommend listening to the audiobook version. The full cast narration was so good and truly brought the characters to life. I could NOT put this book down!!!

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster!! So many things to unpack in less than 200 pages. The story of Jesiel and Moros was such an amazing addition to the Of Fate series. It’s a happy story, but full of TRAUMA!! It wouldn’t be part of the Comas World if it didn’t have trauma though right?

Jesiel (a Beskermer) and Moros (a Governing God) come from completely different backgrounds and upbringings with one exception. They both are shamed by their families for not “fitting the mold” and being disappointments to their unapologetically abusive fathers.

An unlikely bond between the unlikely pair is one that neither of them can ignore. Will either of them be willing to allow themselves to enjoy each other’s companionship? Love can be painful, love can be messy. But is it worth it?

As I read through each page I truly didn’t know which way things were going to go. The emotional turmoil, the sexual tension, and the stubbornness of both characters was so well written. I found myself screaming at the page a few times, but also caught myself holding my breath watching their individual journeys unfold.
