Great book, although the description could be a bit much at times; but that’s just an effect of worldbuilding and establishing Middle-Earth, which Tolkien does very well, so I have no complaints. 5/5. Most of the book was exposition, as it was intended by Tolkien in his original setup, which had the Lord of the Rings as a single book, I believe. I enjoyed noticing the contrasts between the book and the movie. Tolkien shows Frodo’s character growth really well. From being rushed in to taking on the responsibility to fighting in battle and taking wounds, he’s gotten more coursgeous.

Boromir is amazing, and the Gimli and Balin scene with the drums, as well as Gandalf against the Balrog

There is no individuality. There is only the Party, and the Party is the only truth. The past doesn’t exist because it is only in the mind and on record - both are controllable. Power is power over men or minds, not necessarily on the physical. People would never know what they are lacking without comparison (like human rights). 2 + 2 = 5. Lunacy, the minority of one. Falsity. Doublethink - to believe in two contradicting, opposite things. They can get to your mind.
