As a massive fan of the Farseer, Liveship and Tawny Man trilogies, I was excited to discover a new story set in the same world. Returning to Fitz was like meeting an old friend after a long absence, such a joy. I love this book: it's written with Hobb's trademark humour and sensitivity, her characters finely drawn and totally believable, the plot full of unexpected twists - and the magical world comfortable in its own skin. Fool's Assassin made me laugh; it made me cry; I wished it was longer... especially as it ends on a breathtaking cliffhanger. Fantasy at its best.
