Not amazing writing, but I was very quickly very fond of the heroine. Could have used some better editing, particularly re: some minorly inconsistent characterization, but overall I quite enjoyed it. The commonly drawn parallel seems to be the Mercy Thompson books, but I found it more like the early Anita Blake books.
