I have no idea how to begin to describe this book. To prevent spoilers I will see it’s one hell of a ride, and a bit of a plot twist towards the end I didn’t see coming. I’m excited to read the rest of the series considering I finished this book in only four days. I will say at times it can be hard to understand what picture the author is trying to paint as his choice of words don’t always make the most sense, but after slowing down and re reading a paragraph here and there it all came together. I like the main character and I can’t wait to see where he goes with him, a boy who has only known hate since a young age and has devoted his life to revenge. The ending was brilliant and not what I expected, and like I said I can’t wait to go to number two

Dead tongues heeded are dead tongues tasted. This book was a journey. I cannot wait until the second one comes out. Bless Kristoff for this masterpiece.

Real rating 4.3, mainly because parts of this book tended to drag, but this book otherwise was such a thought provoking experience. Fantasy with a critical point of view on colonialism. This book opened my eyes. It made me see what it was like to be a national for a nation but still not get accepted due to the color of someone’s skin, their religion or nationality. Overall this was an experience I won’t forget, and cannot wait to pick up more of her novels
As time goes on, my thoughts keep circling back to Babel, I want more, I know there isn’t more but I can’t stop thinking of robin, I can’t stop thinking of Victorie, I can’t stop thinking of letty and ramy. This cohort is constantly in my mind, they’re ingrained in my thoughts. I have adjusted my rating to 5, as this book has obviously stuck with me. I think the craziest thing is that I can’t identify with the over all themes of this book, of being a foreigner in a place you were born and raised. I can’t identify with being treated differently just because of the color of my skin, because of the sex of my birth. But I can learn from peoples experiences, I can see through others eyes. This books criticism on colonialism has stuck with me, and it will never let me go.
