Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Would reccomend this book to any young readers wishing to start the series. Overall the book was okay, but the pacing got on my nerves. Then again, there was a lot of world building to be crammed into 310 pages.

Even If We Break by Marieke Nijkamp

Don't get me wrong - I liked the book. Genuinely. I mean, I finished it in less than 24 hours, so that's promising. I, at the very least, did not want to put it down because I was invested. But I didn't exactly love it. I will narrow the reasons why it was a "like" and not a "love" to three points:
1. It felt way too much like a cheesy, Cabin in the Woods-esque thriller. Think The Quarry or Until Dawn. Somehow it mixes all three into one, which isn't a bad thing, but the bouncing around between first person POV is what did it in. I think if it stuck to one character's POV, or a top-down third person POV, I would have made this at least a 4/5 stars.
2. The "nerdiness" of the characters felt forced. Or I guess, the pop culture relevancy? The references to LotR and Harry Potter were definitely picked up on, but it felt like every other paragraph was some kind of reference.
3. I knew who the Big Bad was just from reading the first few chapters. "But, Katie, that isn't to say everyone knew who the Big Bad was when they read it!" I should not be able to confidently name the Big Bad from the first few chapters. Insert shrug emoji here.
Overall, not a bad read.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Did not finish. Might pick back up again. Really liked what I had read of this, so it's promising.
