I believe that the idea was to start the book very plot dependant because Auren fully trusts Midas and just lets things happen. I think it went wrong because she acted like that for way too long and the moment of her "breaking out" and switching is not really significantly presented. That feels like a wasted chance.

Throughout the book, we are told of this great love and affection Midas has for Auren, but we just never witness it. They barely interact or have moments alone. I wasn't convinced of his feelings, so even if it was supposed to build up to her feeling betrayed and hurt by him, it didn't carry across because the initial feelings weren't there.

I have to start this off by saying how much I just love these characters. I will miss them so much.

This book felt a lot slower (and a lot longer than 400ish pages), but due to it being a third book in a series where I just love reading about any of the characters, it didn't feel tiring. I do wish there was more tension to feel more of that build-up to the final 20% of the book.

Some of the romance, even though it was pretty clear from the start there were feelings there, I just wasn't into. Some others, I was really happy to see.

It left me feeling not fully satisfied, as I'm just not sure where they're gonna go from here. But, following them all as people with flaws and wrong decisions and regrets, maybe they aren't sure yet either.

Overall, this is a series I will continue to recommed to people and I can't wait to follow this author in the future!

Can't believe I'm saying I didn't enjoy a Lisa Jewell book. I just felt like the Marvel aspect of it put her in a box and she would've made it a much more thrilling story on her own. I really liked how the premise sounded, but unfortunately it just did not live up to my expectations.
