The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier

A slow burn historical fiction plus love story (not all romantic!), mixed with a dash of magical realism. The main character Orsola isn’t exceptionally interesting, but I think that’s the point. Told from her POV, she’s an ordinary girl who we see come of age through a timeline of extraordinary events.
The author did such careful research to make the stories of Venice, Murano, and the glassmaking world come alive. She set a beautiful scene spanning centuries. I also enjoyed the brief true-to-life additions of Giacomo Casanova and Empress Josephine Bonaparte.

I now get the hype around Abby Jimenez. The plot was kinda predictable -- and if I had to read one more time, "We're just too different, Daniel. It will never work!" (we GET IT) -- but it was still interesting and sweet. Looking forward to books 2 & 3 in the series.

Raw and gutting. Highly recommend the audiobook to hear self-recorded clips of Lisa Marie and her daughter Riley’s accompanying reflections.

Such an enjoyable story! The romance was sweet, and I liked the main characters together and as individuals. The Hanukkah holiday setting and celebration of the characters’ Jewish community was really nice to read about.
