I kept waiting for this to add up to something and then it just kind of… never did?
Super interesting premise and Laing offers some insightful analysis of how alcohol and alcoholism show up in the works and lives of the writers she profiles, including some interesting speculation of how alcoholism might’ve influenced their craft-making. But ultimately it fails to answers the question that it implicitly poses in its premise: why are so many writers alcoholics, why are writers so prone to alcoholism and is there a connection between the two?
Good for what it is but also could’ve been a lot more.
