I’m at a loss for words. The escalating brutality was intense, and I found myself needing breaks to process it all.
I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings before diving in. The book doesn’t hold back on depicting a world where this is the norm. However, it’s exceptionally well written, offering rich character and world-building in very few pages.

I needed some time to process this story after finishing it.
By the end, distinguishing between reality and fiction became challenging. The characters' actions built up to a gripping climax. While the motives behind the main parties actions were never fully explained, they set out to at least make something monstrous. The narrator explicitly states that no one in this story is innocent. From the main cast, the Thin Kid himself, the viewers of the movie, and even us as the readers.
While the beginning was slow, it felt necessary for the gradual build-up of dread. It all climaxed in a way that was shocking, but unsurpising.Our narrators transformation into a monster almost perfectly mirrored his character's.
It was an excellent read and very quick to get through.

The theming of different kinds of love was surprising. Something that isn't touched on in horror too often and really should be. I think that was the stories greatest strength here. It dragged for me in a lot of parts, with the build up ultimately falling flat. I wanted more from the characters, the horror, and to feel more dread as we reached the climax. With the exploration of a monster we don't often see in horror media, I was ultimately disappointed with their direction.

This was a fun read. The world building isn't and left me with more questions than actual answers on how things worked. However, if you can get past that, it did keep me entertained throughout my reading journey with the book.

‘Queer Villains of Myth and Legend’ does well in delivering on an approachable and fun read. My main issue was wanting more depth in the analysis throughout the chapters—some parts felt better researched than others. However, the stories are interesting and definitely peaked my curiosity to learn more about the featured characters. For anyone learning about queer history and media for the first time, I highly recommend it.
