That was one of those dual timeline novels which takes you swiftly to a simple boys meets girls story that is being told but Lara a mother of three beautiful ladies while they are locked in their Cherry orchard farm during the covid pandemic.
Lara takes her daughters back in time when she used to be a rising actress who had been in a relationship with “Duke” their favorite superstar who is nothing like their Dad Joe.

It is a beautiful story about the choices we make in our early adolescence life which shapes our lives according to what is most important to us.

The Vanishing Half; is a novel about a twin sisters separated by choice after running away from their hometown. Each having a totally separate life demonstrating the social dynamics of the black community in the 70’s in USA. Going on with their lives each giving birth to a daughter not knowing about her mother’s twin sister.

The writing style of Brit Bennett is amazing, the storyline is written gracefully and very well structured with smooth switch between the different characters.

الكتاب مكون من ثلاث قصص قصيرة يجمعهم فكرة واحدة وهى القهر واستغلال من يحتاج؛
أول قصة تدور احداثها فى عصرنا الحالى حول عائلة بسيطة تدفع ثمن أخطاء أصاحب النفوذ.
ثانى قصة تدور أحداثها فى عصر الرئيس الراحل محمد أنور السادات وقت أزمة اللحمة الشهيرة حول صاحب مزرعة خنازير وكيف تم استغلاله من قانصين الفُرص للحصول على مكاسب مادية كبيرة وسريعة غير شريفة.
أما القصة الثالثة فأحداثها تدور فى عصر الرئيس الراحل جمال عبد الناصر حول الدكتور البيطري مولود حديقة الحيوان ومن عاد لها حينما وجد صعوبات فى تحقيق حلمه والزواج من حبيبته ليواجه أزمة فى الحديقة يتم من خلالها أستغلاله و إذلاله.
فى كل قصة سوف تجد عامل مشترك آخر وهو الكلمات المتقاطعة التى كان من الممكن جعلها أسم أفضل للكتاب.

رواية من واقع مرير بسبب الجهل المتأصل فى المجتمع المصرى مما يؤدى الى مثل هذه الحوادث.
طريقة سرد الكاتبة جديدة وبداية الرواية مشوقة جدا مما يثير  فضول القارىء من أول صفحة ورغم الكتابة القليلة فى كل فصل الا أن الاحداث ثقيلة والكلام مُعبر ومُؤثر جدا.
لم يعجبنى فقط كتابة مشهد الحادثة فكان وِتره سريع، وأحداثه غير مترابطة وكان يحتاج الى مزيد من الوصف المترابط.

Usually the books that have a lot of buzz around them doesn’t attract me, but I was in a bookstore in a different country and I came across it so I told myself to get it and see what all this buzz is about.
After finishing it I would tell you it’s worth all the buzz in the world, the plot twist is undeniably amazing you would never predict it or see it coming.
This novel sets the bar so high for all thriller and mystery novels out there.
