I think Celestine was like the most annoying character to ever be created. “Black and white thinking”, and somehow her reactions still didn’t make any sense.

The book jumped from one plot point to the other, so quickly that you didn’t even have the time to react to the last one.

Yes, sure, the idea is quite nice, and it sounds exactly like something I would like (dystopian is one of my favourite genres), but it was just so disappointing. Especially with all the good reviews this book has gotten.

Unfortunately, I won’t be reading the second one, as the last 30% of this book felt more like a chore than enjoyment.

Just don’t ever tell yourself that you didn’t know. (...) That would be the worst crime of all.

Yes, my god, this book! I loved “the boy in the striped pyjamas” and knew I had to read this book, too!

As a German, I always have a soft-spot for 2nd world war books, and this one was so perfect about it.

The only complaint I have is that we don’t celebrate Christmas on the 25th, we celebrate it on the evening of the 24th, which is something that immediately caught my eye while reading this book. Yes, I might be picky about it.
