If I never hear the words sticky bun again it will be too soon
I think I read a different book than everyone else… I can see why others love both powerless and this book. I however did not.
This was so incredibly repetitive and I only skimmed the second half of this book just so that I could be done with it
I really wanted to give the second book a shot even after not loving the first book so one thing I did learn from reading is that the next time I’m just gonna trust my gut. This was not worth it for me
Like the first book this book felt like the author thought to herself “just how many tropes can I put into this book” and then proceeded to put them all in there no matter if they make sense or not
I will admit though that I really liked the plot twist and cliffhanger at the end
That also makes me kind of sad that I’m definitely not going to read the last book in this trilogy because I think the story in itself has so much potential for me to enjoy it
The rest of this review isn’t necessarily a spoiler but if you don’t want to see or know anything about this book don’t read this:
Kissing in the sewer…? Really? Was Lauren Roberts like “hm let’s think of the least romantic place for them to have a heart to heart and make out… yes a sewer, what a great idea, they’re literally swimming in shit and piss. So romantic.” (I know they say that’s it’s mostly water but that’s still hella disgusting)
“I can’t swim” proceeds to swim perfectly ?????
Nah fuck this
Knowing what happens doesn’t make it hurt any less
Adena is the definition of a sunshine character
Didn't get super invested in Mak and Adena's romance because 200 pages felt too short for that and it was kind of rushed. This book felt like it was just written for the sake of torturing us but I'm still very glad I read it

A sassy, headstrong assassin. A broody, tortured king. DRAGONS. Need I say more?
As usual when I read fantasy books I had a really hard time getting through the first 80 pages but once I finally got invested and everything started coming together I was SAT.
Raeve is a strong, sassy assassin who doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do. I loved her comebacks and the way she didn’t falter for ANYONE (except Kaan 🤭) the way she was acting towards Kaan was a bit frustrating sometimes but I can understand why and I don’t blame her
Kaan is everything. He’s so loving and so caring of Raeve. I was seriously swooning. No matter how hard she pushed him away he was always so patient and kind with her.
I loved seeing the both of them find each other and grow together
This book had me in its chokehold the entire time. I loved seeing everything slowly clicking into place and finally starting to make sense of everything
I can’t wait to read more of this world!
This series will definitely become a new favourite of mine
I will say there were parts that sort of dragged on a bit because they were just world building and descriptions. It definitely makes sense because the world is really complex and I needed the glossary at the end of the book. Others might really enjoy that but I sometimes get bored when there’s pages upon pages without anything really happening (but that’s just personal preference)
I started this book because someone said it reminded them of Johnny and Shannon and all I can say to that is HOW DARE YOU
This was way too insta lovey and at the same time I couldn’t feel their connection at all
I literally have no idea why Rhys suddenly started liking Sadie so much
I love a good guy falls first romance but this was just weird
I get that Sadie’s personality is off putting as a Defense mechanism. Usually I love these types of fmc’s but I genuinely couldn’t stand her

I don’t know how y’all can read books where the mmc is still going around “fucking other whores” but I would rather burn all the books in my bookshelf than continuing this series … I don’t think Cora Reilly’s books are for me
I have enjoyed dark romance books with some very questionable men but the men in this series are just straight up misogynistic and disgusting to me
Also can someone please explain to me why these BROTHERS are always fucking their “whores” in the same room at the same time??? If they weren’t fucking RELATED I wouldn’t care, whatever floats your boat and all that. BUT THEY ARE BROTHERS. WHY.

I knew going into this that it would be an emotional book and since I adored love redesigned I expected to love it
I didn’t however expect to love it more than the first book and to cry 80% of the time
I’m always a bit wary of standalone books that are this long but just a few pages in I was so happy that I would have 600 pages of this because I already loved it so much
At no point while reading did I think this was too long
This story felt natural and it took the time it needed to develop for Rafa and Ellie to be what they needed to be for each other
Rafa and Ellie (and also my sweet boy Nico) are such special characters and they will stay with me forever
Ellie and Rafa are two very raw, imperfect characters and that made them so perfect to me
Reading about Ellie’s struggles and journey of self-harm was something very personal for me and I think it was done beautifully
Rafa’s (and also Nico’s) reaction when she told him about it was so beautiful. I love that Nico and Rafael’s priority was Ellie’s happiness and they never judged her
Rafa’s journey to find his own happiness and to finally start trusting and accepting himself as well as new people was incredibly emotional
I loved that he wasn’t perfect and I loved that it was mentioned how his actions affected Nico.
Rafael’s progress wasn’t linear and it was frustrating sometimes but i think that made the story more perfect because that’s what it’s like in real life
I just wish we could’ve seen more of Nico in the last 40%. He was the absolute highlight of this book for me and I would have loved to see more of Nico and Ellie’s relationship towards the end
