The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare, Holly Black
4.0
Despite the fact that yes, there were incredible amount of similarities to Harry Potter, the fact that Cassandra and Holly were able to conjure up a completely different story was amazing.
I loved the whole idea of being chosen to study magic. And even how Call wasn't the 'chosen one' but more ... the evil one I guess you can say. Also the diversity in gender/race etc was great. I enjoyed it and can't wait for the next.

So I liked the overall idea of the story. The main character (at the beginning) was great, I could connect with him. It was as he stArted ageing a felt at a loss for the story. I felt it could've had more pages to it, more drabs of information. Let the reader make more decisions perhaps.
But it was overall good as a quick read to get over my feels from the previous book. Not only that but the cover was so good I just couldn't leave it at the book store!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

I think this has been my favourite so far of the first 3 books. And the movie was also always my favourite, so I can't wait to read the next book!
What I liked most about this is the number of Quidditch games in it -- and how Malfoy is more harsh than depicted in the movies -- and probably the story let out in the Shreaking Shack. The last few chapters were the best.
