So, this is my least favorite so far. I did not read it first, and I stand by that decision. If you don’t already know Celaena, you don’t care. I was DRAGGING myself through the first three novellas. The last two picked up speed and ripped my heart out. I don’t recommend reading this first, but I do see it’s importance for her back story. But, I’m eager to get back to the main story.

This book took me a good bit to finish. I would read and get angry and have to walk away for a little while. Not because of the author but because of what I was reading. As someone who grew up in the South and in a very Christian setting, this book hit home. And as someone who has taken a step back from religion in adulthood this book was everything.

We’re coming off of ACOTAR, and I love these characters. I quickly fell and love and was turning pages. There was some confusion with the world building but that’s how it always goes with fantasy books. I think it could have been better, but I have high expectations going forward.

Very thought provoking. It did take a weird turn that I didn’t feel that I signed up for especially at the end.

This is my second Nina LaCour book, and she is excellent at conveying the weird phenomenon that is the experience of grief. The writing is a little eh now for my taste (not big on YA the older I get), but I still enjoyed the story. I mean I finished it in a day because I needed answers. The reveal was a little weird and now what I expected but that’s okay.

Dead average. A beach read. What have you. I hate Darcy – she’s a terrible human being.

First, character development does not happen over night. In this case, it LITERALLY happened over night. There is no way that Ethan is the first person to ever call her shallow and selfish. She’s thirty and been this way her whole life. Second, the Ethan from the first book who shit talked Darcy and his personality would never ever ever fall for Darcy. It’s sweet and all but no.

I still gave it 2.5 because it’s an entertaining read. No substance, subpar writing.

I read it cause I love the movie. Pleasantly surprised at how close it stuck to the book. It’s a classic rom-com vibe book except everyone sucks. (Except maybe Ethan?) the story is still great everyone is just a terrible person.
