I think the writing style is definitely a take it or give it and people might find it too intellectual and referential. However, she clearly talks about how Literature, and other stories or rape and incest have helped her built her own story regarding her own abuse. In that sense, the amount of references and quoting and literature discussion completely make sense.
There are some really moving passages and, in general, I think the book's talent in avoiding melodrama is what makes it a good piece of literature.
